SOFTBALL DIVISIONS

 

            The Thornydale Little League Softball division is one of the most successful youth softball programs in Pima County.  Over the course of the league’s 25 year history, the Thornydale softball division has captured 23 Little League Championships at the various district, state and regional levels.

 

          In 2006 the Thornydale softball program 9/10 year old and Junior divisions captured the respective District 5 Championships and advanced to the Arizona State Tournaments.

            In 2007 the Thornydale softball program 9/10 year old captured the respective District 5 Championships and advanced to the Arizona State Tournaments finishing 2nd in the STATE.

 

           

DEVELOPMENTAL DIVISION

 

DIVISION                                                                          LEAGUE AGE AS OF DECEMBER 31, 2006

 

MAJOR SILVER                                              8 thru 11

 

  • ALL registered 9 Year olds regardless of playing experience will participate in this division.

 

  • Players ages 10 thru 11 that are not selected to a team in the Major Gold Division will automatically be placed on a team in the Major Silver division.

 

  • Teams will be established by the league designated Softball Commissioner and the League Player Agent.

 

  • Fast pitch motion and technique is taught and developed at this level.

 

  • Inter-league games with other teams within District 5 will be scheduled.  Travel to other team sites is probable.

 

  • No game results or team standings are maintained at this level.

 

  • Post season playoff tournament (will include teams from other leagues) will be conducted to determine a division champion.

 

  • Players ages 9 and 10 that participate in ˝ of their teams regular season games will be eligible for selection to the 9/10 year old all-star tournament team.

  

 

 

COMPETITIVE DIVISION

 

DIVISION                                                                      LEAGUE AGE AS OF DECEMBER 31, 2006

 

MAJOR GOLD                               9 thru 12

 

  • Fast pitch motion style of softball.

 

  • Highly competitive.

 

  • Candidates that participate in this division should have a minimum of TWO (2) years of actual softball playing experience.  If a candidate had not played in an organized league or team, it is highly recommended that the candidate participate in the Major Silver Division.

 

  • ALL registered candidates MUST attend and participate in the scheduled player evaluation session in order to be eligible for team selection.

 

  • Teams are selected thru the Little League approved player selection system (draft) by the team managers.

 

  • Players that are not selected for this division will automatically be placed in the Major Silver division.

 

  • Inter-league games with other District 5 teams will take place and travel to other playing sites is highly probable.

 

  • Post-season playoff tournament format (including inter-league teams) is held at the end of the season to determine a division team champion.

 

  • Players that participate in ˝ of their team games will be eligible to be selected to the league’s all-star tournament team.

 

  • Umpires are utilized at this level and are assigned by the league.

JUNIORS                                        13 thru 14
 

SENIORS                                        15 thru 16

 

  • HIGHLY COMPETITIVE – players consist of those that are currently playing at the high school and ASA levels.

 

*           Fast pitch level.

 

  • The number of teams will be determined based on the number of registrants for each division.

 

  • If there are enough players to establish more than one team in each division, then there will be a player skill level evaluation conducted.

 

  • If more than one team is to be established, the players will be selected thru the Little League approved selection process (draft) by the respective managers.

 

  • Inter-league play with other teams from within District 5.  Travel to other playing sites is highly probable.

 

  • Post-season inter-league tournament of champions is conducted at the end of the season to determine the division team champion.

 

  • Umpires are scheduled and assigned by the league.

 

  • Players that have participated in ˝ of their team regular season games are eligible for selection to the league all-star tournament team.
